Double Tracks Railway Jira-Ubon
The Jira–Ubon Ratchathani double-track railway is one of Thailand’s key rail infrastructure development projects. It aims to enhance passenger and freight transport efficiency between the Northeastern region and the central part of the country. Converting from a single to double-track system reduces travel time, increases convenience, and supports higher traffic capacity.
This project is part of the Northeastern double-track railway network, linking Bangkok with Ubon Ratchathani through major stations. The route starts at Jira Junction in Nakhon Ratchasima and ends at Ubon Ratchathani Station, covering a distance of approximately 308 kilometers.
Project Benefits:
– Reduced transportation time between Ubon Ratchathani and Bangkok
– Promotes rail freight transport, reducing logistics costs
– Enhances economic and tourism potential in the Northeast
– Reduces traffic congestion and air pollution
Sirindhorn Dam Power Plant and Solar Floating System
Located at Sirindhorn Dam, Ubon Ratchathani, this is the world’s largest hybrid floating solar power plant. It combines solar and hydropower electricity generation. Operated by the Electricity Generating Authority of Thailand (EGAT), the system includes 145,000 solar panels generating electricity during the day, and three hydropower turbines operating at night. Covering more than 450 rai (approx. 72 hectares), the solar farm generates 45 megawatts, working in tandem with the 45-MW hydropower plant, and connects efficiently to the national grid.
